Whilst masons do their work on the East wall, the window is
deconstructed. Each piece is filed and any broken panes need to
be re-made. The originals are used as tracing templates for their
replacements.
Firstly, the line is painted and kiln-fired.
Secondly, the shading is applied, and the glass is fired again.
Shading can be manipulated to give depth to the images and to
distress the basic surface, to emulate the effects of the ravages
of time.
Finally, a yellow stain is applied on the reverse side of the glass,
and fired at a slightly lower temperature than the line and shading.
